What is a Nurse Practitioner?

All NPs have advanced education to a Master or Doctoral Level. All NPs undergo rigorous national certification, periodic peer review, clinical outcome evaluations, are regulated by their state’s Board of Nursing and adhere to a code for ethical practices. NPs can order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, prescribe medications, manage patient care, refer to and collaborate with with our physician partners, counsel and educate. With over 40 years of data, NP’s are shown to provide safe, high quality, cost effective care with outcomes similar to those of our physician colleagues. There are over 870 million visits made by NPs each year and patients report an extremely high level of satisfaction with the care they receive.

Drug Costs

  • Sometimes medications that are not covered or require prior authorization may not cost more than a typical co-pay, be sure to ask the pharmacist what the cash price is.

  • Most pharmacies have discounted generic drug lists and don’t forget to sign up for their savings clubs.

  • GoodRX is a good way to price shop the cash price of a medication for your local pharmacies.

Health and Prescription Insurance

  • For Medicare recipients, you will need to choose a Part D plan to cover your medications - you are able to choose your plan each year. Go to Medicare.gov where you can enter your zip code and medications to find the best plan and cost for you.

  • If you are not Medicare eligible and are shopping for health insurance, please start with Connect For Health CO to get information on the Colorado Health Insurance Exchange.
